Classes
The WBRW CMC offers the following classes for Community TV Producers. Scheduled classes are listed in the training schedule section. Call 586-752-5202 to register (pre-registration is required).
All classes are free to residents of Romeo, Bruce and Washington.
Digital Video Editing (class forming now)
Non-Resident Cost: $40/person
Editing is an integral part of the process of making a video. Class participants will learn the basics, and gain enough knowledge to fearlessly begin to edit program their programs. Topics include settings and preferences, capturing, working with clips and working with the timeline. This will be a hands-on class using Final Cut Pro, but what you learn can be applied to any editing software. This class is provided when requested. Please call the CMC to register. Minimum enrollment: 4 students.
Producer Orientation
Non-Resident Cost: Free
This class will get you acquainted with the WBRW Community TV's facilities, cablecast rules and regulations, and options for content development. Upon completion of this class, you may submit programs for cablecasting on Community TV*. Scheduled on a regular basis, this class meets once for approximately 2 hours.
*Note: In addition to completing the Orientation class, you must also be a resident of a participating community or a WBRW Community Media Center member to submit programs.
Field Producer Certification
Non-Resident Cost: $60/person
Prerequisite: Producer Orientation
This course will prepare you to create your own video content using cameras, microphones, lighting and editing equipment available from Community TV. You will learn how to operate equipment and get practice in developing your own video content for cablecast. Upon completion of this class you will be certified to check out all Community TV field production equipment and use the video editing suites. This class is scheduled regularly and requires a total of 8 hours, usually meeting 4 hours for each of 2 meetings. You must attend all sessions (or make arrangements to make up a session) in order to become certified.
Studio Producer Certification
Non-Resident Cost: $40/person
Prerequisite: Producer Orientation
This class is designed to help Producers get up to speed quickly in the use of the Community TV Studio and Control Room, including remote camera control, sound mixing, titling and special effects, and lighting. This class will help Producers become effective in Community TV's Studio and in working with similar equipment in other community locations (e.g., township meeting rooms). Upon completion of this class you will be certified to use the Community TV studio for your own projects. This class is scheduled occasionally and meets for 3 hours.
Lighting for Video
Non-Resident Cost: $25/person
Lighting is sometimes challenging but can make a huge difference in the look and feel of your video. This 2-hour session will introduce you to the basics-both with a lighting kit and tricks that can help you with foamcore or reflectors. This class is provided when requested. Please call the WBRW CMC to register. Minimum enrollment: 4 students.
